POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar women's tennis team is on a six-match winning streak following Saturday afternoon's 8-1 victory against St. Lawrence. The Brewers are now 12-5 overall and 6-0 in the Liberty League.
The Vassar doubles swept St. Lawrence.
Frances Cornwall and

"The points were long and hard fought. Vassar played disciplined, steady tennis to win by this significant margin. Our fitness was an asset in the long points," said head coach
Kathy Campbell. "We dominated in the doubles playing with controlled aggression and setting net players up for put away volleys."Â
Vassar did not drop a single set from the first to fifth courts. No. 1 Cornwall won 6-1, 7-5 and has now won nine matches in a row. Playing the second court, Yekta bested Apt 6-4, 6-2 and Edwards pulled off the 6-1, 7-6 victory at the third. No. 4 Stavropoulos tallied the easy 6-1, 6-2 victory. Flournoy wrapped up the Vassar wins, going 6-2, 6-1.
"Taking a 3-0 lead into singles, Vassar established early leads in close games. It required a disciplined approach to stay steady, yet aggressive in singles. I'm proud of our resilience, tenacity and mental toughness. "
