POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – A strong doubles squad from RPI proved to be the difference maker on Saturday morning at the Josselyn Tennis Courts. The Engineers took the doubles 2-1, while the teams split 3-3 in singles play.
The duo of
Allen Sokolov and
Jeremy Auh opened with an 8-4 loss at the first court doubles.
Mathew Yee and
Nicolas Demaria teamed up but lost 8-7 against RPI's Dylan Payne and Zach Ebenfeld at the No. 2.
Adam Krueger and
David Gandham then won in an 8-2 match to Winston Yu and Brian Niguidula.
The Vassar singles fought hard but only managed to break even. RPI took the first three courts, while the Brewers won four to six. No. 1 Gandham dropped the 6-1, 6-2 match and No. 2 Yee fell 6-3, 6-3 to Andrew Imrie at the second.
Jamie Anderson fought back from a 6-2 first-set loss to force extra points in the second set. He was edged 7-5 in the final. Krueger had a solid performance, winning 6-1, 6-4 over Yudai Teruyama. No. 5 Sokolov went 7-5 in the first and then closed the match 6-2 in the second.
Nick Lee played the sixth position, going three sets against Suryansh Patel. After winning 6-4, Sokolov fell 5-7 in the second. He then narrowly beat 11-9 in the extra set.
Vassar is back in action Sunday morning for their senior day match against St. Lawrence. Matches start at 10 a.m. at Josselyn Courts, weather permitting.
