GENEVA, N.Y. – The Vassar women's tennis team moved to 4-0 in the Liberty League following a 7-2 victory against William Smith on Sunday afternoon. The Brewers took the doubles 2-1 and won singes 5-1.
The day started strong, with
Frances Cornwall (Poway, CA) and
Tara Edwards (Littleton, CO) winning the No. 1 8-5.
Morgane Flournoy (Grosse Point, MI) and
Ashley Fair (Laguna Beach, CA) then rolled 8-1 at the No. 3.
William Smith would take the second doubles, but only dropped one match in the singles. Cornwall faced some competition at the No. 1, but won in three sets with a dominating 10-3 tiebreaker. Edwards tallied the win at the No. 3, going 6-1, 6-1, while freshman
Melina Stavropoulos (Atherton, CA) won the fourth with the same scores. Flournoy notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the fifth and
Joyce Park (Gig Harbor, WA) went 6-1, 6-3.
Vassar returns home on Sat. April 6 to face RPI at 10 a.m.
