ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore
Adam Krueger (Bay Village, OH) and junior
Allen Sokolov (Woodland Hills, CA) picked singles wins over Ithaca on Saturday afternoon, but the Brewers fell 7-2 in Liberty League play to the Bombers.
Ithaca (2-7, 1-2 Liberty) swept the doubles. Sokolov and
Jeremy Auh (Scottsdale, AZ) dropped the 8-4 decision at the No. 1, while Krueger and
David Gandham (Ann Arbor, MI) fell 8-1 at the two. The tandem of
Jamie Anderson (Constantine, KY) and
Nick Zuczek (Westerly, RI) lost 8-6.
In the singles, the Bombers took the first through third positions. Gandham fell 6-4, 6-2 to Minos Stravrakas at the No. 1. Freshman
Mathew Yee (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) fought four sets against Sam McGrath, but fell 10-7 in the final. Anderson was then down 6-2, 6-0 at the third. No. 4 Krueger bested Colten Lavery in three sets, winning the first 6-1 and then 6-3 in the tiebreaker. Sokolov tallied a strong 6-1, 6-3 victory at the fifth position. Auh played the No. 6 and lost 6-2, 6-0.
Vassar continues Liberty League play next Friday when they travel to Union for a 4 p.m. match.
