CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Vassar men's tennis team closed their California trip with a close 5-4 victory against Wooster on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers won the doubles 2-1 and split 3-3 in the singles.
Junior
David Gandham (Ann Arbor, MI) took the No. 1 singles with two 6-3 victories against Austin Hanna. At the No. 2,
Mathew Yee (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) fell in three sets to Joaquin Abos Amo. After winning the first 6-2, Yee dropped the second 6-4 and lost 6-4 in the tie-breaker. Senior
Jamie Anderson (Constantine, KY) was bested in three matches as well at the third. After losing 6-3 in the first, Anderson rallied for a strong 6-1 victory, but ultimately lost 7-5 in the third set. Both
Adam Krueger (Bay Village, OH) and
Allen Sokolov (Woodland Hills, CA) tallied wins at the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
Jeremy Auh (Scottsdale, AZ) was defeated in three sets at the sixth.
Sokolov and Auh teamed up for the 8-5 No. 1 doubles victory, while Anderson and
Nick Zuczek (Westerly, RI) won 8-2 at the No. 3. Kruger and Gandham lost 8-4 at the second doubles.
Vassar now opens Liberty League play next, facing Ithaca on March 30 at 12:30 p.m.
