ORANGE, Calif. – The Vassar women's tennis team wrapped up the spring break trip with a narrow 5-4 victory over Chapman on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers took doubles 1-2, but the Brewers won 4-2 in singles play. Chapman's Alisa Ogranovich and Madison Ross won the No. 1 doubles against
Frances Cornwall (Poway, CA) and
Tara Edwards (Littleton, CO) 8-4.
Sarra Yekta (Las Vegas, NV) paired with
Melina Stavropoulos (Atherton, CA) to take an 8-3 at the second doubles, but Morgane Flourney (Grosse Pointe, MI) and
Meghan Rodick (Kapolei, HI) dropped the 8-3 decision at the third.
Cornwall topped Alisa Ogranovich by marks of 6-4, 6-1 at the top position. Yekta went three games against Madison Ross, but ultimately fell 6-3 in the tie-breaker. Edwards rallied from her doubles loss to pick up a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Vasilia Trofimova, while Stavropoulos tabbed a 7-6, 6-3 win at the No. 4. Flournoy won 7-6, 6-3 at the fifth.
Joyce Park (Gig Harbor, MI) fell 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6.
Vassar returns to action on March 30 to face Ithaca in Liberty League play.
