PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Vassar baseball team took a 4-2 lead at the bottom of the sixth, but the Cardinals scored five runs at the top of the seventh to hold on for the 7-2 victory. North Central now is undefeated at 5-0, while Vassar slips to 3-3.
Senior
Taylor Smach (Manlius, NY) carried his momentum from the previous game, homering in the fourth to put Vassar up 2-0. Smach then hit a triple in the same inning, which
Daniel Bonfiglio (New York, NY) scored off of. The Cardinals tallied two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2, but Smach then scored in the following inning off a
Robert Pinataro (Binghamton, NY) sacrifice fly.
Unfortunately, North Central found their stride soon after. The Cardinals took the 7-2 lead and Vassar was unable to recover.
The Brewers now have two games on Saturday. Vassar first face SUNY Canton at 9 a.m. and then Babson at 12 p.m.
