PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- After giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Vassar College baseball team rallied to score 10 runs and defeat the SUNY Canton Roos Saturday.
Matt McGannon (Redding, CT) earned his second win of the season going six innings.
Trailing by two, the Brewers got on the board in the top of the third inning off a
Cameron Skudin (Melville, NY) single up the middle. Later in the inning, Skudin would make his way home after a
Jason Salerno (Dix Hills, NY) double to left field.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning,
Gunnar Widercrantz (Selden, NY) flied out to right field sending
Taylor Smach (Manlius, NY) home. Two batters later,
Tanner Blough (Carlsbad, CA) singled to center field, Skudin advanced to second and Layne and Shimoda scored. The inning ended with two batters left on base.
Vassar exploded during their next at bat, scoring an additional five runs. The score-spree was ignited when
Matt Martino (Hauppauge, NY) opened the inning with a double to left field followed by a Smach double down the left field line forcing Martino home.
Win the win, the Brewers move to a record of 4-3.
Vassar is back on the mound tomorrow at 11 a.m. as they face Hudson Valley foe Mount Saint Mary College.
