Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Topped by Babson & MSMC

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- Though they go on the board first in both games, the Vassar College baseball team was topped by Babson College 12-9 and Hudson Valley rival Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) 5-3 Saturday afternoon.

Game One
With one out at the top of the second inning, Daniel Bonfiglio (New York, NY) singled to center field. Robert Pinataro (Binghamton, NY) doubled pushing Bonfligio to third before Bryan Rubin(Bryn Mawr, PA) flied out to right field, opening the way for Bonfiglio to head home, earning the Brewer's their first run of the day.

Though, the Beavers answered the lower half of the inning scoring three runs off of five hits to take the advantage, 3-1.

Three quick outs for Vassar in the next half-inning off a grounder to second base, a pop-up and a strike out. Meanwhile, Babson's offensive spirit remained, scoring an additional three runs.

No runs scored in the fourth, however at the top of the fifth inning, the Brewers faced some changes in the Beaver's in-field defense. Vassar looked to capitalize on the new players, and did so, scoring six runs, taking back the lead.

The score-spree started with a Connor Levchuck (Greenlawn, NY) reaching first base on a Babson fielding error and pushing Rubin to second, and Pinataro to third. With bases loaded, Matt McGannon (Redding, CT) singled to center field advancing everyone and allowing Pinataro to score. Sam Brinster (Long Beach, NY), next at bat, singled and Levchuck and Rubin both crossed home.

The Brewers scored a total of six runs off of six hits in the inning, leaving two runners on base.

Though, Vassar would allow six more runs trailing by five going into the final inning. An Evan Trausch (San Diego, CA) RBI followed by Matt Schwartz (Dix Hills, NY) reaching on a fielder's choice and Matt Martino scoring added two runs for the Brewers but the deficit was too much.

Game Two

The Brewers scored two runs in the top of the third inning. The first came after Tanner Blough (Carlsbad, CA) got on base after a MSMC error paired with a steal followed by a Cameron Skudin (Melville, NY) single to center field allowing Blough to go home. Skudin stole second with Brinster at the plate. Brinster singled to left field with Skudin heading home. The inning ended with a pop-up to center field.

At the bottom of the next inning, the Knights scored their first run. Though, the Brewers responded by scoring a run on their next offensive effort when Skudin reached base on a fielder's choice. Blough advanced to second and Jesse Mulham (Syosset, NY) crossed home plate. The inning ended with one runner left on base.

The Knights scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and an additional three runs in the bottom of the eighth in the win.

Patrick Fitzgerald (Phoenix, MD) takes the loss.

After both games, the Brewers move to a record of 4-2.

The Brewers continue their run in Port Charlotte, FL tomorrow at 11 a.m. as they face Denison University.
