PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- On day two of the Spring Fling Tournament, the Vassar College women's lacrosse team defeated the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors 17-2 with contributions from 12 Brewers Thursday afternoon.
Tessa Waters (Skokie, IL) lead the offensive effort with three goals on three shots in the win.
Linday Wolk (Parkland, FL) and
Gabi Patick (Lynbrook, NY)Â connected with two goals apiece. Meanwhile,
Marissa Kokinis (Owings Mills, MD),
Kaela Parentis (Clarence Center, NY),
Alessandra Fable (Orlando, FL),
Fiona MacLeod (Garden City, NY),
Emily Hamburger (Clarksville, MD),
Ella Foster (Bowling Green, OH),
Sara Mathes (Sarah Mathes),
Sydney Nemphos (Baltimore, MD), and
Sophia Gaffney (Albany, NY) and
Tillie Newcomb (Denver, CO) all notched one.
Additionally, Mathes scooped up a team leading three ground balls.
Jackie Molloy (Buffalo Grove, IL),
Cheris Congo (Hockessin, DE), Wolk, and Nempos all got low for two.
Molloy was solid between the pipes playing 48:27 minutes and making 10 saves. After netting her first-career goal, Gaffney switched to goalkeeper in the final 12 minutes where she also picked up her first save.Â
This was Vassar's game to win, scoring seven goals within the first 10-minutes of play. Three of which came off the stick of
Kelly Pushie (Mahwah, NJ). The Brewers scored five more goals, with
Melanie Silverman (Southbury, CT) contributing three assists in the run, before the Warriors got on the board with 5:37 remaining in the first half. Eastern Connecticut State would score one more goal before ending the half.
Vassar accumulated 18 shots on net with 9-out-of-9 successful clears in the half.
Returning to the field after halftime, the Brewers put an additional five points on the scoreboard.
With the win, Vassar moves to a record of 2-2.
The Brewers are back on the field Wednesday March 20 at 1 p.m. as they host Hudson Valley rival Mount St. Mary College.
