HAMLTON, N.Y. – Four Brewers went undefeated at the Colgate Round Robin on Saturday, with the Brewers going 1-1. Vassar opened with a 9-0 sweep against Siena, but then fell 5-4 to Colgate.
Vassar went 3-0 in every position with Siena. No. 1
Viraj Nadkarni (Mumbai, India) won with set scores of 11-7, 11-4 and 11-5, while
Caden Gruber (Costa Mesa, CA) eased to a 11-2, 11-4 and 11-5 three-set victory. Alex Wiseneski (Mechanicsburg, PA) rolled 11-1 in the first set and then went 11-6 and 11-7 for the third-position sweep.
At the four,
Milind Joshi (Pune, India) won 11-2, 11-2 and 11-3. Issac Stuart (Swampscott, MA) almost matched Joshi's scores going 11-2, 11-1 and 11-3.
Henry Mitchell (Yardley, PA) and
Travers Parsons-Grayson (Newport, VT) rounded out the six and seven spots. Both won in three sets.
Colgate proved to be a more challenging opponent, but Nadkarni and Gruber were able to pick up the 3-0 sweeps. The competition was closer with Nadkarni edging his foe 11-6, 12-10 and 11-6, while Gruber narrowly won 11-9, 11-9 and 12-10. Colgate swept the third to seventh positions. Michell went back-and-forth at the sixth, but was eventually tripped up 11-7 in the fourth set.
Reese Collins (Bedford, NH) tabbed his win of the day at the eighth, going four sets. He won the first two sets 12-10 and 1-4 before falling 11-5 in the third. Collins finished strong with an 11-9 final set victory.
William Condon (Auburndale, MA) went five sets against Colgate. After winning the first 11-6, he dropped the next two with scores of 11-5. Condon kicked in the end, winning the fourth and fifth sets 11-8.
The Brewers travel to New Haven, CT next for CSA Nationals on Feb. 15.
