POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – After suffering a 5-4 loss to Rochester on Saturday, the Vassar College men's tennis team (3-1, 2-0 Liberty) rebounded with a 9-0 victory over RIT (1-2, 0-1 Liberty) at Walker Field House on Sunday. It was the Brewers' first win under Head Coach
Tina McDermott.
Vassar built an early 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches.
Allen Sokolov (Woodland Hills, CA) and
Jeremy Auh (Scottsdale, AZ) earned an 8-4 win over Brennan Bull and Jacob Meyerson at No. 1 doubles, while the Brewers' No. 2 tandem of
Nick Zuczek (Westerly, RI) and
Nicolas Demaria (New Hyde Park, NY) defeated Jake Wolicki and Nick Lim by an identical 8-4 score.
Adam Krueger (Bay Village, OH) and
David Gandham (Ann Arbor, MI), meanwhile, registered an 8-2 victory over Patrick Matthews and Gabriel von Kessel in the No. 3 position.
Sokolov also won his singles match, defeating Matthews 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Krueger then clinched the overall victory for Vassar by topping Jake Wolicki 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 singles,
Mathew Yee (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) registered a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Bull.
Jamie Anderson (Constantine, KY) picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Spencer Lowitt in the No. 2 singles match, while No. 6
Mihajlo Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) earned a 6-2, 6-0 win against Michael Peters. In the No. 5 position, Auh needed three sets before putting away Lim, 1-6, 6-4, 11-9.
The Brewers won't play at home again for nearly two months. Vassar begins a seven-match road trip on Saturday, when they visit Skidmore (0-1, 0-0 Liberty) at 1 p.m.
