No. 15 Brewers Close Season With Win Over Royals

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Three different Brewers scored in No. 15 Vassar field hockey's third straight win on Wednesday evening, as the Brewers won 3-1 against visiting Scranton. With the win, Vassar closes the regular season with a 14-3 overall record, while Scranton falls to 10-7.

Junior Dara Studnitzer (New City, NY) scored three minutes into the first quarter after Natalie Johnston (Trappe, PA) dished the long-range pass from outside of the circle. Studnitzer scooped it up five-yards out from the left side and chipped the shot in. The Brewers went on to outshoot the Royals 7-3, but would not score again in the half.

At the 21st minute, goalkeeper Liz Rotolo (Lebanon, NJ) blocked a Brianna Witt attempt and then junior Ally Aquilina-Piscitello snagged a defensive save off another shot.

Vassar struck early again at the start of the third following a penalty corner. Senior Stephanie Palma inserted to Rylie Pope (San Diego, CA) at the top of the circle where she fired the shot through the Royals' defense. The Brewers scored again at 42:25 in almost a similar fashion. Poe launched her shot from the top of the circle, but this time Niki Rizzo (Andover, NJ) redirected it in front of the net for the score.

Scranton got on the board at the 52-minute mark in the fourth after Maeve Kenny grabbed a goalkeeper deflection. She then shot into the left corner of goal.

Rotolo grabbed one save, while junior Madison Maguire (North Kingstown, RI) played the entire fourth. She also had a save.

Vassar begins post-season play next week when they travel to Skidmore on Wed. Nov. 6 for the Liberty League Semifinals. Game is set to start at 2 p.m.
