POTSDAM, NY (October 19, 2019) - Sophomore
Emma Tanner scored and assisted on the game-winning tally as the Vassar women's soccer team shutout Clarkson University, 3-0 on Saturday at Hantz Field. The win moves the Brewers to 7-6-1 with a 4-2-0 mark in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights are now 9-5-1 with a 2-4-0 record in league play.
Senior
Savannah Cutler, who assisted on the game-winning goal in Friday's victory at St. Lawrence, nailed her own game-winner on Saturday. She scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 18th minute off an assist by Tanner.
The Brewers then went up by a 2-0 advantage in the 74th minute after a mele in the box. As the ball bounced around in the tangle of players, it caromed off a Clarkson player and in for an own goal for the visitors.
Tanner added an insurance goal in the 80th minute after she converted a pass from rookie
Adie Amore past Clarkson goalie Elyse Green.
It was a historic victory for Vassar junior goalie
Fiona Walsh, who notched her 15th career shutout in the win. That makes her the all-time career shutouts leader in Brewers' women's soccer history, passing Emma Nichols '15, who she'd been tied with at 14 since September 28th in a 1-0 overtime win against Union College.
Walsh finished with six saves in Saturday's victory at Clarkson, while her counterpart, Green had five stops in the loss.
Vassar returns to action on Saturday, October 26 when it travels to Ithaca for a 3pm Liberty League tilt against the Bombers. Clarkson is also on the pitch next Saturday, traveling to RPI for a 2pm league game.
