ITHACA, NY (October 26, 2019) - Sophomore
Gabi Tulk converted a pass in the 81st minute to lift the Vassar women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Ithaca College in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers move to 8-6-1 overall with a 5-2-0 mark in conference play, while the Bombers are now 9-5-1 and 4-3-0 in the Liberty League. The victory also marked the Brewers first-ever win over Ithaca since the series first started in 2004.
Locked in a scoreless battle through the first 80 minutes of the contest, the Brewers earned the go-ahead as senior
Savannah Cutler crossed the ball onto the foot of Tulk. She banked her shot into the lower left corner for the 1-0 advantage.
Despite a number of shots from the Bombers, including one that caromed off the goal post and two that went high, VC was able to hold on for the victory.
Vassar junior goalie
Fiona Walsh held solid in goal, recording eight saves for her fourth shutout of the season. Her counterpart, Sara Jakobsze had two stops on the afternoon.
Ithaca owned the advantage in shots for the game by a 22-8 margin, including an 8-3 edge on goal. The Bombers also had a 10-4 margin in corner kicks.
The Brewers return to action on Wednesday when it hosts RPI at 3pm on Gordon Field. Ithaca is also in action on Wednesday, welcoming RIT at 3pm.
