Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cenan Scores Career High As Brewers Roll Past RPI

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar women's basketball team (11-2, 5-1 Liberty) matched a program best eight-consecutive wins with a 67-43 victory over RPI (7-6, 2-4 Liberty) on Friday evening. Junior Jackie Cenan (Laguna Beach, CA) scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Brewers.

The Engineers scored first, but a pair of Isa Peczuh (Willington, CT) free throws tied things up. RPI's Lakissa Martin hit a layup to take a two-point lead, and Peczuh responded with a three to give Vassar the lead for the rest of the game.

Ryan DeOrio (Collegeville, PA) made a layup and Sophie Nick (Denver, CO) sank a three to push the lead to 10-6 midway through the first quarter. Vassar continued its run in the second, leading by as much as 17 in the quarter. After a three-pointer by Elizabeth Eckhardt, Peczuh started a 12-2 run, while making two treys in that span.

The Brewers outscored RPI 22-11 in the third, opening on a 15-2 run to take a 50-29 lead at 4:32. RPI attempted to chip back in, but Cenan drained the three to keep the Engineers at bay to lead by 29 points.

RPI outscored Vassar 13-11 in the fourth, but the Brewers lead was too much to surpass. After Ines Ortea cut the lead to 18, Lexi Mousley (Jericho, VT) sank a jumper and Julia Roellke (Poughkeepsie, NY) made a pair of layups to close the game on a 6-0 run.

Cenan shot 8-of-14 and 4-of-6 from three-point range. Peczuh finished with 14 points, shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Nick chipped on eight points, and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds. Maddie Leong (Atascadero, CA) and Sarah Gillooly (Stow, MA) had four assists each. As a team, Vassar shot 24-of-60 (40.0 percent) and made 10-of-11 free throws (90.9 percent) and outrebounded RPI 43-29.

Martin led RPI with 12 points and nine rebounds. Ortea tallied 11 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Vassar is back home Saturday night for a 2 p.m. match against RIT (8-4, 3-3 Liberty).
