Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – After an almost two-hour lightning delay, the Vassar men's soccer team posted their sixth shutout win of the season, while picking up a 4-0 Liberty League road win at Bard on Wednesday night.
The weather played a factor in the first half, halting the game 12 minutes in. Once play finally resumed, the Brewers (6-2, 2-0 Liberty) managed to outshoot the Raptors (3-6-1, 0-2 Liberty) 17-1 while holding a 5-1 corner advantage in the half.
Vassar got on the board late in the half after
Henrik Olsson (Tokyo, Japan) made a point blank shot after the ball deflected off a Bard defender at the 36
th minute. Six minutes later, San Francisco natives
Mattie Mrlik and
Jonathan Bow linked up for the second score. Mrlik made the ground cross in front of the goal where Bow recorded the shot into the bottom-right corner.
With the exception of the lightening delay, the second half mirrored the first. Vassar took 13 shots while picking up two more scores. At the 58
th minute
Tyler Gilmore (Coronado, CA) made a clean cross to Mrlik who slipped it into the left post. Late in the game, freshman
Garrett Lusk took advantage of a loose ball in front of the Raptors' goal and floated the shot over the goalkeeper and in to the right post for his first-career goal.
Will Marment (Stamford, CT) made one save on four shots faced and split time with
Luke Lefeber (Hoboken, NJ) who made one save.
The Brewers briefly return home on Sat. Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. to face Union before a three-game road trip.
