DANBURY, Conn. – Two goals five minutes apart proved to be the difference on Wednesday night, as the Vassar College women's soccer team (3-2-0) earned a 2-1 victory over Western Connecticut State (1-4-0) at the Western Athletic Complex.
Emma Tanner (Florence, MA) scored for the third time in four games, while
Dahlia Chroscinski (Hummelstown, PA) headed in the game-winner for the second straight contest.
Tanner opened the scoring in the 61
st minute, when she took a feed from
Rebecca Andrews (Los Altos, CA) and fired a shot that slipped just under the crossbar. Chroscinski headed in
Sara Rubinelli's (Long Beach, CA) corner kick five minutes later to double the Brewers' advantage. Alexandra DeLuca got the Colonials on the board in the 69
th minute, but
Fiona Walsh (Hackettstown, NJ) made a pair of key saves over the final 11 minutes to preserve the 2-1 victory.
Vassar outshot Western Connecticut State 14-8 in the contest, including a 10-6 edge in the second half. Tanner's goal was her team-leading third of season, while both of Chroscinski's tallies have been game-winners. Walsh (3-2-0) made four saves in the win.
Western Connecticut State goalkeeper Alexis Lainchbury (1-3-0) finished with five saves in a losing effort. Lucy Daniels was credited with the assist on DeLuca's first tally of the season.
After playing four straight away from home, the Brewers return home for a 12 p.m. contest with Oneonta (2-2-0) on Saturday. The matchup with the Red Dragons begins a span where Vassar plays six of its next eight at Gordon Field.
