POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 7, 2018) – The Vassar women's lacrosse team dropped to 2-2 in Liberty League play after a close, 9-7, loss to the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon.
In a tightly contested match, both teams were even with 32 shots, 24 shots on goal, 19 groundballs, and nine draw controls for the game.
Senior
Storm Sideleau led the Brewer offense and had a game-high four goals against the Yellowjackets. No other player on Vassar had more than one point as
Fiona MacLeod,
Tessa Waters, and
Olivia O'Loughlin all added one goal.
Amelia Rivoir was the only Brewer to tally an assist.
Sydney Nemphos had a game-high four caused turnovers while also picking up a team best four groundballs.
Emily Chancey played the full 60 minutes between the pipes, logging a career-high 15 saves on the afternoon.
Saturday's game was nothing like the high-scoring affair on Friday night against the Tigers. A day after scoring 19 goals, the Brewers were held to just three in the first half against Rochester.
Vassar got the first goal of the day when Waters charged through the defense for the early marker. Ten minutes later with Rochester ahead 2-1, MacLeod tied the game with her only tally of the afternoon. The Yellowjackets would again double up the Brewers to take a 4-2 edge. But with 2:17 on the clock before halftime, Sideleau scored her first of the day.
Both teams came out stagnant in the second half and it wasn't until the 22:08 mark that either team got another goal. Rivoir made a beautiful pass from behind the net to O'Loughlin who made it count and tied the score at 4-4.
That score would then spark some life into the Yellowjackets as they tallied the next five to go up 9-5 with 11:34 remaining. The Brewers tried to rally when Sideleau fired home two quick tallies just 40 second apart to make it 6-9.
Rochester's defense would clamp down and fend off five Brewer shots in the remaining time before Sideleau got the final goal with just 11 ticks left on the clock.
Up next, Vassar finishes off their four-game homestand with a visit from Skidmore on Wednesday, April 11 at 5:00 p.m. on Weinberg Field.
