ANNANDALE, NY (April 25, 2018) – The Vassar women's lacrosse team exploded for a 21-9 Liberty League victory at Bard on Wednesday evening. The 21-goal outburst was the highest scoring output for the Brewers since they matched that total on April 18, 2000 in a win over Kean.
The Brewer offense was led by 11 goal scorers and 12 point getters. At the top,
Tessa Waters poured in five goals while both
Olivia O'Loughlin and
Alessandra Fable tallied hat tricks. Both
Fiona MacLeod and
Kelly Pushie registered four points. The junior had two goals and two assists as they sophomore added one score and three helpers.
Storm Sideleau tallied three points while
Emily Hamburger,
Julia Sledzik, and
Lindsay Wolk each had two. And with one goal apiece,
Adele MacEwen,
Amelia Rivoir, and
Skylar Herrera-Ross rounded out the Vassar scoring.
Vassar scored quickly as Pushie found the back of the net just two minutes into the contest. After Bard tied the game at 1-1, the Brewers scored the next five goals in total 10 of the final 14 goals in the first half. After 30 minutes of action, Vassar held a six-goal advantage at 11-5.
After allowing just five goals in the first half, the Brewer defense allowed just four in the second. And the Vassar offense continued to score adding 10 more goals to their total. Vassar scored four times in the opening 2:43 of the second half to build at 10-goal lead.
Haydn Hallman had her best day as a Brewer, playing in the midfield, she collected a team-high six draw controls while causing four turnovers. And between the pipes for Vassar,
Emily Chancey played the full 60 minutes, needing to make just four saves against the Raptors.
At 4-5 in the Liberty League, the Brewers must win their final game of the regular season for a chance to make the postseason conference tournament. Vassar will host Union on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on Weinberg Field.
