POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 14, 2018) – The Vassar men's lacrosse team dropped another tough game at home on Senior Day as the Clarkson Golden Knights earned the 9-6 league victory on Gordon Field.
The Brewers led 3-2 after the first quarter as they got out to a quick start against the Knights.
Michael Mullen scored less than a minute into the game to put Vassar on top. After Clarkson tied it,
Dekker Stebel got on the board to put Vassar in the lead once again. Now tied at 2-2, Jame Thomas made a quick pass to
Tomás Meade on the crease as the freshman finished for the score.
Clarkson used a 3-0 second quarter to jump ahead 5-3 heading into halftime. They built upon that lead with two early scores in the third to go up 7-3.
The Brewers capped the third quarter with two scores to make it a two-goal game heading into the fourth. Mullen's tally made 4-7, and then
Evan Burns scored a transition goal off the assist from
Michael Killion.
The Golden Knights pushed their lead to three before Stebel tallied his second of the day. But with just over one minute to play, Clarkson tallied their ninth to extend their lead and close out the game.
Mullen and Stebel each finished with two goals while Meade and Burns each had one. Thomas and Killion both dished out assists for the Brewers.
Matt Boyd and
Erik Mikelinich both split time between pipes. Boyd made six saves in the first half and Mikelinich stopped eight in the second.
The Brewers head to Union next Saturday for their final road contest of the regular season.
