Vassar Women's Tennis Match Notes - RPI

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 11, 2018) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team are on the road this weekend to take on another Liberty League opponent in RPI, following a 7-2 victory over St. Lawrence last Sunday.

The Brewer team pushed past host St. Lawrence University 7-2 in the second of two Liberty League matches this weekend, thanks to strong doubles performances from freshman Frances Cornwall and senior Courtney Geiss, who cruised to an 8-2 victory to earn their second victory together at No. 3 doubles. They were equally strong in singles play, with Cornwall posting her fourth straight win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No.1 while Geiss held strong at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-4 win. No. 2 doubles pair freshman Sarra Yekta and senior Dasha Ivenitsky, are now on a six doubles' match win streak and are 3-0 in conference play together, after clinching an 8-3 win  against St. Lawrence to improve to 8-1 on the season.

A Look At The No. 31 Brewers (11-3, 5-0 Liberty League):
  • The Brewers are currently No. 1 in the Liberty League, No. 13 in the Northeast, and No. 31 in the nation.
  • Ten Brewers are undefeated in the conference in singles play this season, giving the squad a .933 win percentage in Liberty League matches to contribute to a .620 overall win percentage.
  • Four Brewers are on a winning streak of four or more in singles: Frances Cornwall and Meghan Rodick have each won their last four matches, Sarra Yekta her last six, and Ashley Fair her last nine.
  • The Brewers have proven strong in doubles play, winning 93.3% of conference matches and 77.9% of overall matches in pairs.
  • At No. 2 doubles the Brewers are winning 85.7 % of their matches, helped significantly by Dasha Ivenitsky and Sarra Yekta's 8-1 record.
  • Yekta and Tara Edwards are tied for most doubles matches played, with 20 each; Edwards is 12-8 while Yekta is 16-4.
A Look At The Engineers (8-4, 1-3 Liberty League):
  • The Engineers come into this contest having just fallen to Liberty League opponent St. Lawrence 3-6 at the end of March—a team the Brewers just defeated last weekend.
  • Overall, the Engineers post a .545 win percentage in singles, with a .375 in Liberty League play. They hold a .551 win percentage in doubles play overall, and .417 against Liberty League opponents.
  • At No. 2 singles, the Engineers post a .833 win percentage, thanks to a strong 9-2 record in the position from Tess Lubin, one of two Engineers to defeat the Saints in singles play.
  • Lubin is on a three-game win streak, while teammate Andrea Valencia, the other Engineer to win her match against St. Lawrence at No. 3, has won her last seven contests.
  • Lubin and Valencia are also undefeated at No. 2 doubles, going 4-0, matched by teammates Mailani Neal and Nisha Rajamohan at No. 1 doubles.
  • Overall, RPI is winning 50% or more of its doubles matches, winning 50% at No. 3, 75% at No. 2, and 66.7% at No. 1.
