Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Waters Scores Three-Straight To Give Brewers 10-9 Win Over St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY (March 24, 2018) – Thanks to three-straight goals from Tessa Waters to end the game, the Vassar College women's lacrosse team is off to a 1-0 start in Liberty League play. The Brewers picked up a 10-9 win at St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon.

The Brewers trailed 9-7 with 11 minutes left on the clock, when the sophomore took control of the game and hammered home three-straight scores to put the Brewers ahead. Her final goal came with 2:23 remaining and the Vassar defense held strong forcing a Saints turnover to regain possession and run out the clock.

Kelly Pushie tied a program record with six assists on the day, dishing out helpers for more than half of the Brewer scores. Along with Waters' three goals, Adele MacEwan and Storm Sidelau each recorded two. Fiona MacLeod had two points on the day with one goal and one assist. Amelia Rivoir and Lindsay Wolk both tallied one score on the day.

St. Lawrence had a strong start to the game, putting away the first four goals of the game. Down 4-0 15 minutes into the contest, the Brewers offense came alive and surged back with five straight goals over the next 10 minutes. First MacLeod fed Rivoir for the first of the day. Then Pushie assisted on Wolk's tally before Sideleau scored unassisted. The final two goals of the run were both assisted by Pushie and she fed MacEwan and MacLeod.

The Saints regained momentum before the half, scoring twice more before heading to the locker room with a 6-5 lead.

In the second half, Pushie assisted to MacEwan to open up the scoring and knot the game at six all. Two more goals by St. Lawrence put them back in the lead. Both sides traded scores over the next few minutes before Waters asserted herself on the offensive end. With the Brewers down two, she tallied three goals over the span of seven and a half minutes to put her squad on top.

But with over two minutes to play, the defense had to hold strong and preserve the lead. After St. Lawrence won the ensuing draw control, Tillie Newcomb was able to force a Saints turnover and hand the ball back to the Brewer offense with under two minutes on the clock. Vassar was able to maintain possession and run the clock out for the remainder of the game.

Emily Chancey had a strong day in net, picking up nine saves. Four players registered a caused turnover for Vassar with Waters, MacLeod, Newcomb, and Skylar Herrera-Ross all earning one.

The Brewers will close out non-conference play in their next match, travelling to Madison, NJ to take on FDU-Florham on Thursday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m.
