Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Outmatched by No. 9 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, CT (March 14, 2018) – The Vassar men's lacrosse team fell to the ninth ranked Wesleyan Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon, 15-5, in Middletown, CT.

Nick Diamond, Michael Mullen, and Austin Mello all finished the day with three points. Diamond registered one goal and two assists, while both Mullen and Mello had two goals and one assist.

Matt Boyd earned his fifth start of the season and made 17 saves in net.

The Brewers had the advantage at the faceoff "X" winning 13 of 24, led by Matthew Lowery's 13-22 effort.

Wesleyan took control of the game early as they hammered home the first seven goals of the contest. The Cardinals shutout the Brewers in the first stanza, owning a 4-0 advantage after 15 minutes. Gibbons fed Mullen for the Brewers first goal of the day, late in the second quarter. The home side put one more on the board before the break to head into halftime with an 8-1 edge.

Vassar switched up their game plan and came out of halftime with three straight goals to make it just 8-4 early in the frame. Mullen found Mello for the first score, followed by a Diamond tally assisted by Mello. Their final score of the run came from the stick of Mullen after Diamond hit him with the assist. But Wesleyan regrouped and notched two more goals before the end of the quarter.

In the fourth, it was all Wesleyan adding five more to their total. Mello tallied his second of the day on a man-up opportunity with just three and a half minutes to go, but it was too little too late for Vassar.

The Brewers begin Liberty League action next time out facing No. 11 St. Lawrence in Greenwich, CT on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
