Men's Lacrosse Falls in League Action to No. 11 St. Lawrence

GREENWICH, CT (March 17, 2018) – The Vassar men's lacrosse team opened Liberty League play with a tough loss to No. 11 St. Lawrence, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon.

It was a low scoring first half as the score sit just 3-0 after 30 minutes of action. The Saints got one goal in the first from Conor Caffrey before he added another in the second. David Jennings also tallied a score for the Saints just one minute before the halftime buzzer.

The Brewers defense held tough in the first half with Matt Boyd recording five saves against 19 total shots through the first 30 minutes.

Vassar came out with the first goal on the second half when Michael Mullen passed to Dekker Stebel for the score early in the frame. But that sparked a run of six-straight goals from the Saints to increase their edge to 9-1. They scored the final five goals of the third period and added another in the final frame.

With just 31 ticks left on the clock, the Brewers notched their second of the day as Mullen was the recipient of a Spencer Duryee feed. The attacker made a quick low angled shot that made its way past the keeper for the score.

The Brewers held one clear advantage on the day at the faceoff "X", with Matthew Lowery going 10-15 on the restarts to give possession to Vassar.

Boyd finished the day with 12 saves and Lowery led the way with five groundballs. James Thomas had a team-high two caused turnover, while six other Brewers recorded one.

Vassar is back in action against Colorado College on Wednesday, March 21st at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA.
