Vassar Men's Squash Notes - CSA Nationals

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 19, 2018) – The Vassar men's squash team heads to the 2018 CSA Nationals this weekend beginning with a match against Northwestern on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Vassar men's squash team fell on the road at Hamilton College, 0-9. Hamilton made a clean sweep of the Brewers, going 3-0 in all of the games. In the top three spots for Vassar, Viraj Nadkrani, Caden Gruber, and Alex Riccio all put forth their best effort. Nadkarni stayed close, but fell 11-5, 11-2, 11-5. Gruber lost three games 11-3, 11-2, 11-3. And at No. 3, Riccio lost 11-2 11-0, 11-0.
 
A Look at the Brewers (6-15):
  • Freshman Mathieu Rizk has posted the most wins on the team this season with an 8-12 overall record.
  • Second on the team with a 7-14 overall mark are Caden Gruber and Alex Riccio.
  • The Brewers are just 2-4 playing away from Kenyon Hall this season.
  • The last time Vassar faced Northwestern was back on February 16, 2008 dropping 0-9.
  • Vassar faced two other teams in the Serues Division earlier this season. They lost to Bryant, 4-5 on November 18 and lost to Brandeis 3-4 on January 20.
  • The Brewers faced both Duke and Boston University in last season's CSA Championships, dropping both matches.
 
A Look at the Wildcats (6-3):
  • Northwestern is ranked No. 41 in the latest CSA Rankings.

A Look at the Other Competitors:
  • Boston University is 9-9 overall this season and ranked as the 42nd team according to the CSA.
  • The Terriers have lost three in a row to Tufts, Fordham, and Northeastern heading into this weekend's matches.
  • At No. 43 is Boston College with a 7-7 overall record this season.
  • The Golden Eagles are winners of two straight having beaten Northeastern and Brandeis on February 10 and 11.
  • Duke is ranked 44th in the latest CSA Rankings and post an 11-4 overall record.
  • The Blue Devils are 2-2 in the month of February with wins over Vanderbilt and Richmond.
  • Bryant University is ranked at No. 45, posting an overall record of 5-7.
  • The Bulldogs have gone 1-1 in their two matches in February with a win over Babson.
  • No. 46 Babson is 2-5 this season.
  • Both of their wins this season have come against Brandeis.
  • Rounding out the field is No. 47 Brandeis University with a 3-7 mark this season.
  • The Judges are 2-3 since the turn of 2018, with wins over Vassar and Siena.
