WEST POINT, NY (February 17, 2018) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team, ranked No. 40 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, opened the 2018 spring portion of its season by falling to Division I Army 7-0 in indoors action from the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. 

The Black Knights earned all three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point, which is different in Division I where Division III scores all nine matches evenly. Freshmen Sarra Yekta and Meghan Rodick fell 6-0 to start the afternoon, while Courtney Geiss and Dasha Ivenitsky battled well at No. 3 but were unable to pick up the win with a 6-3 decision.

At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Tara Edwards and Morgane Flournoy pushed Kirby Einck and Gloria Son, but eventually dropped a 6-2 final. In singles, Ivenisky played well at No. 6 singles, especially in the second set of a 6-1, 7-5 defeat, and Yekta was also strong at No. 5 singles as she pushed the opening set to a tie-break before falling to Sophia Suri 7-6 (5), 6-1. 

The Brewers (2-1) will now turn their attention to next weekend's Seven Sisters Championships, as VC looks to defend its title for the fourth consecutive season at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
