POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar College women's swimming & diving team honored its six seniors prior to Saturday afternoon's meet against Skidmore. The Brewers then went out and defeated the Thoroughbreds for the 11
th consecutive year, earning a 173-103 victory at Kresge Pool.
Vassar set the tone by going 1-2 in the opening 200 yard medley relay, as the Brewers were first in 12 of the 16 events. The victorious quartet of
Jesse Ecklund (Missoula, MT),
Hayley Schultz (Fayetteville, NY),
Brynn Lautenbacher (Dunwoody, GA) and
Stephanie Kaplan (Bellmore, NY) posted a time of 1:52.82.
Ecklund and Lautenbacher then went on to win a pair of individual wins. Lautenbacher swept the sprints, notching a 25.27-second clocking in the 50 freestyle and finishing the 100 freestyle in 55.94 seconds. Ecklund earned victories in two different disciplines, placing first in both the 200 freestyle (2:00.45) and 200 backstroke (2:09.69). Schultz also registered an individual triumph in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.44).
Kendall Hayes (Baltimore, MD), meanwhile, took first in all three of her individual swims. In addition to winning the 200 butterfly (2:21.17), she swept the distance freestyle events. Hayes (5:24.53) and
Sammy Stone (Wake Forest, NC) (5:35.48) went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, while Vassar finished 1-2-3 in the 1000 freestyle, led by an 11:09.06 clocking from Hayes.
Angharad Healey (Summit, NJ) was second (11:11.89) and
Kael Ragnini (Barrington, IL) placed third (11:29.21).
It was another 1-2-3 showing in the 100 butterfly, with
Ellie Kennedy-Wood (Oak Park, IL) earning the victory in 1:03.23.
Laura Vidano (San Francisco, CA) finished second (1:05.04), while Healey's 1:05.60 clocking was good for third.
Rhea Randhawa (Dix Hills, NY) won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.61, while
Shannon Schrope (Kinnelon, NJ) captured first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.32) to go along with a second-place performance in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.03).
In all, there were a total of eight events where the Brewers took the top two spots, including three 1-2-3 finishes. Stone grabbed second place in the 200 freestyle (2:05.84), Kaplan was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.90) and
Violet Witchel (Durango, CO) finished second in the 50 freestyle (25.75), while
Hannah Zawacki (San Jose, CA) added second-place points in 1-meter diving (152.90).
Rachel Yang (Minocqua, WI) (2:21.59) and
Sarah Boese (2:26.36), meanwhile, completed a Vassar sweep in the 200 backstroke.
Next weekend, the Brewers return to Kresge Pool for their final home meet of the season. Vassar takes on RPI starting at 1 p.m.
