Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Caveny Scores Twice As Vassar Continues To Roll

CANTON, N.Y. – The Brewers field hockey teamed cruised to a 5-0 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. Four different Vassar players scored in the team's seventh shutout of the season. With the win, Vassar moves to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the Liberty League while St. Lawrence slips to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

In what appears to be a trend, the Brewers heavily outshot the Saints 22-3 over the game and did not allow a single St. Lawrence shot on goal. The Vassar offensive was a little slow out the gate, but picked up nine minutes in when Niki Rizzo (Andover, NJ) fired the first shot on goal. The Brewers continued to hound the Saints cage until the 20th minute, when Emily Poehlein (Northampton, MA) knocked in an Alyssa More (Wilmington, DE) pass to put Vassar up 1-0.

At the 24th minute, Cristina Lopez (Timonium, MD) picked up Dara Studnitzer (New City, NY) and then at the 31st minute, Megan Caveny (Cicero, NY) found net for her first goal of the game.

After the break, the Vassar offense heated up even more, outshooting St. Lawrence 14-1 while holding a 9-1 penalty corner advantage. The Brewers took six shots in the opening six minutes in addition to four penalty corners. Caveny eventually broke the Saints' defense, scoring her second unassisted goal at 42:45 for her seventh of the season.

At the 62nd minute, Sam Plante (Watertown, MA) scored from the Rylie Pope (San Diego, Ca) feed to finalize the 5-0 score.

Liz Rotolo (Lebanon, NJ) started in net and picked up the shutout.

The Brewers travel to Ithaca Friday for a 4 p.m. contest as they continue Liberty League action.
