Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brewers Suffer Overtime Setback

POTSDAM, N.Y. – In their second-consecutive overtime game, the Vassar men's soccer team did not fare as well, falling to Clarkson 1-0 on Friday afternoon. An early overtime goal by Clarkson's James Homan at the 95th minute gave the Golden Knights the victory.

With the win, Clarkson moves to 8-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Liberty League, while Vassar slips to 8-3 and 4-1 in the conference.

The Golden Knights picked up the first shot of the game two minutes in, but Vassar answered soon after when Jonathan Bow (San Francisco, CA) fired the shot on goal. Clarkson goalkeeper Riley McDonald was there to make the save though. Clarkson outshot the Brewers 8-5 in the first, but Will Marment (Stamford, CT) was there to make four saves.

Things evened up in the second with both teams taking seven shots each. Clarkson held a slight 4-3 corner advantage in the half, but did not manage any shots on goal.

The start of overtime saw the Golden Knights take two shots in the opening three minutes and then breaking through at the 95th for the game-winning goal. Clarkson's John Furcick hit the corner and Homan was able to slip through the Vassar defense to net the score.

Mattie Mrlik (San Francisco, CA) led the Brewers with three shots, while Hawkins Barrett Heitmann (Cutchogue, NY) and Quinn Tunnell (Hershey, PA) had two apiece.

Vassar currently sits third in the Liberty League following the loss and travels to second-place St. Lawrence (8-2-2, 4-1-1 Liberty) on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
