Men's Squash Notes - Liberty League Championships

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 30, 2018) – The Vassar men's squash team will host the 2018 Liberty League Championships this weekend in Kenyon Hall. The Brewers will take on Bard, St. Lawrence, and Hobart on Saturday and finish it off with the University of Rochester on Sunday.
 
Opponents: Bard College (9-6), St. Lawrence (6-3), and Hobart College (9-6)

Last Time Out: The Brewers went 1-2 in their three matches last weekend against Northeastern, Conn. College, and Lehigh. Vassar picked up a 5-4 win over Lehigh on Senior Day. With the match score tied at 4-4, Viraj Nadkarni had to come through with a win in the No. 1 spot. The sophomore captain took down Corey Bancroft in three, 11-5, 11-5, 11-4, to give Vassar the team win.
 
A Look at the Brewers (6-10):
  • Vassar is ranked 49th in the latest CSA Rankings.
  • Freshman Mathieu Rizk owns the most wins on the team with an 8-8 record.
  • Both Alex Riccio and Caden Gruber are 7-9 overall this season.

  • St. Lawrence has won the past four Liberty League Championships.
 
A Look at the Statesmen (9-6):
  • Hobart is ranked 25th in the latest CSA Rankings.
  • The Statesmen picked up a 7-2 win over at Hamilton last weekend.
  • Hobart went 3-3 as a team during the month of January.
  • At last year's Liberty League Championships, Hobart went 2-2 with wins over Vassar and Bard.
 
A Look at the Yellow Jackets (3-4):
  • Rochester is ranked 8th in the latest CSA Rankings.
  • The Yellow Jackets went 1-3 during January, picking up a 6-3 win over Yale on January 21.
  • Ricardo Lopez and Macus Sim post the best record on the team at 6-1 this season.
  • Rochester went 3-1 at the 2017 Liberty League Championships, falling to St. Lawrence, 4-5.
 
Next up: The Brewers will travel to Clinton, NY to face Hamilton and Colgate on Saturday, February 10.
