POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 20, 2018) – The Vassar men's squash team went 1-1 on Saturday as they topped Siena 5-4, but fell to Brandeis 4-3 in their second match of the day.
In the 5-4 win over the Saints it was the Vassar top five that came through for the win.
Viraj Nadkarni paced the Brewers at No. 1 with a 3-0 win, 11-7, 11-1, 11-2. In fact, all five of the Brewers wins came in a 3-0 sweep. In the remaining spots,
Mathieu Rizk,
Caden Gruber,
Alex Riccio, and
Isaac Stuart all came out on top.
Against the Judges of Brandeis, the top three players picked up wins for the Brewers. Nadkarni and Rizk led the way with sweeps and the No. 1 and 2 spots. In the third, Gruber fought hard for a 3-1 win. But the bottom of the Brandeis ladder came through for four wins to take the team victory. Riccio fell in four, winning the third game 11-1. Stuart and
Andrew Solender got swept at the fifth and sixth spot, while
Milind Joshi fell in five at the No. 6.
The Brewers host three matches next weekend beginning with Northeastern and Connecticut College on Saturday and finishing with Lehigh on Sunday for their Senior Day.
