ROCHESTER NY, (January 13, 2018) – The Vassar men's basketball team dropped to 3-4 in Liberty League play after a 61-57 loss at the Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.
Lance Tebay led the Brewer offense with 15 points, his third straight game scoring in double figures. Senior
Jesse Browne added 11 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, while
Paul Grinde tallied 12 points and eight boards.
RIT got off to a fast start as they went up 5-0 just two minutes into the ball game. A three ball by Tebay and a jumper by
Alex Seff had the game all square at 8-8 at the 14:26 mark. Bu the Tigers responded and regained the lead, bringing it up to as much as seven points. The freshman, Tebay knocked down one more trifecta before the end of the half to get the Brewers within four at the break.
The Brewers came out of the locker room locked in hitting their first two buckets of the half. Tebay hammered home a dunk before Browne put in a layup to tie the game at 27-27. After the Tigers took back the lead, Browne poured in a three-pointer to put the Brewers up one at the 15:22 mark.
Vassar had leads of eight points on three different occasions in the frame, but the Tigers never let them past that. With 6:30 left on the clock, VC held a seven point lead after back-to-back free throws from freshman
Zach Bromfeld. But the Tigers scored eight of the next nine points to tie the game at 53-53 just two minutes later.
The score was again tied at 57-57 with just over a minute to play. RIT then went on to score the final four points of the game to get the win. The Brewers were forced to foul after Rochester went up by two, and the Troy Pierre-Louis converted his shots at the line to seal the win.
The Brewers face two more Liberty League opponents next weekend beginning on Friday night at Union College.
