POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 30, 2017) – The Vassar College women's tennis team finished its fall season Saturday afternoon by earning a pair of Liberty League victories, defeating Union College 9-0 in Walker Field House before traveling to Bard College to pick up another 9-0 win.
"Our team's strength and depth was apparent in
Saturday's matches as every single player contributed to the team's two 9-0 wins over conference opponents Union and Bard," said head coach
Kathy Campbell. "It's nice to see such genuine support for one another and to witness the early development of this year's team. Everyone has already demonstrated significant improvement."

The Brewers started the morning by having to scramble indoors due to a passing shower, forcing the match to start late while changing venues from Josselyn Courts to Walker Field House. That did not affect the Brewers though, as VC was able to sweep past the Dutchwomen.
In doubles, Vassar paired senior
Kate Christensen and
Tara Edwards together to knock off Paige Webster and Natalia Pezzuco 8-4, as VC's pairing helped sweep the doubles. The No. 2 pairing of freshmen
Sarra Yekta and
Meghan Rodick got VC off on the right foot with an 8-2 win, while sophomores
Vista Grinde and
Ashley Fair doubled the Brewers' lead to 2-0 with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Rodick picked up her second win of the match at No. 3 to push VC to within one of claiming the victory, as she picked up a straight-set win over Webster 6-2, 6-1. Vassar clinched the match at No. 4 singles, as senior
Courtney Geiss cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Julianne Loree.
Vassar kept the momentum going, as Edwards totaled another win for the Brewers at No. 2, picking up a 6-2, 6-2 straight set triumph. With the score 6-0, Fair stepped onto the court and kept her singles' record unblemished on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5.
The most exciting match of the day came at No. 1 singles, as Pezzuco and Christensen played a thrilling three-set affair. Christensen picked up the opening set 6-3, but the Union No. 1 player rallied back to earn a 6-3 win. In the super-tiebreaker, Christensen was able to outlast Pezzuco 11-9 to push Vassar's lead to 8-0. The final match to finish was at No. 6, as Yekta doubled her win total on the afternoon, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Madeleine Hamparian.
