Women's Soccer Shuts Out Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (September 27, 2017) – The Vassar College women's soccer team picked up their first league win of the season with a 1-0 victory at Bard on Wednesday night.

Fiona Walsh earned her third shutout of the season and the team's fourth overall. The freshman faced seven total shots while making three saves between the pipes.

Amanda McFarland got the offense started in the 16th minute. Sara Seper crossed in to McFarland who was at the top of the box and fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

The senior's goal was her third of the season, marking a new career-high for a single season. The two points also raised her fall total to seven, ranking fourth best among her teammates.

The Brewers one goal lead would hold through halftime as the Vassar defense kept their clean sheet.

In the second half, it was much of the same as VC controlled the game and had some great chances on net. Over the final 45 minutes, Vassar got off seven shots and were awarded three corner kicks.

Unfortunately for the visitors, they weren't able to capitalize on any of their second half opportunities to end with a 1-0 victory.

Seper, McFarland, and Audrey Pillsbury led the Brewers with three shots apiece against the Raptors. McFarland and Pillsbury each had two shots on target for the night.

The Brewers continue Liberty League play on Saturday when they host Union College on Gordon Field at 3:00 p.m.
