POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 19, 2017) – The Vassar men's soccer team was shutout at Wesleyan in their final nonconference match of the season on Tuesday night, 2-0.
The Brewers only managed 10 shots throughout the game with two on target.
Will Marment made the start in net for Vassar and made seven saves against 16 total shots.
Vassar managed six corner kicks on the night, but could not capitalize on their chances.
The Cardinals first goal came in the 26
th minute by Komar Martinez-Paiz for his first goal of the season. The midfielder was in the box on the right side and shot low to the right side of the goal that just missed the outstretched arms of Marment.
With just a one goal lead at the half, James Schubauer put his side up 2-0 in the 54
th minute with his first goal of the season. The forward made a run down the right side and hammered it home to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
Tyler Gilmore led Vassar with three total shots while
Tanner Sands and
Reid Smith each recorded two.
Andrew Goldsmith,
Jonathan Bow and
Jose Novas all had a crack at the net as well.
Vassar heads into conference play this weekend in Rochester, New York. The Brewers will square off with RIT on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
