SWARTHMORE, PA (September 10, 2017) – The Vassar College women's tennis team finished action at the 2017 SWAT Invitational, hosted by Swarthmore College on Faulkner and College Ave. Courts. The Brewers finished an over 24-17 in singles action for the weekend, while VC was a strong 14-1 over its 15 doubles matches over the two days.
In singles play, sophomore
Ashley Fair was an undefeated 4-0, while fellow sophomore
Vista Grinde picked up four wins over the two days. Freshman
Frances Cornwall was 3-0 before having to retire from her last match, and
Kate Christensen went 2-1 in her three singles matches. Freshman
Meghan Rodick was undefeated in her three matches, and
Courtney Geiss returned from a full year abroad as a junior to go 3-2 in singles play this weekend.
In other singles action, freshman
Rachael Hahn was a winner in three of the four matches she played, while sophomore
Tara Edwards and freshman
Sarra Yekta each picked up once victory. In doubles play, the Brewers saw two pairings going undefeated through their three matches, as Christensen teamed with Edwards to cruise to three wins.
The freshman pair of Cornwall and Rodick was 3-0 as well, while senior
Lauren DiFazio and Geiss went 2-0 together. DiFazio also won doubles affairs with Yekta and Hahn, while senior
Dasha Ivenitsky picked up wins with Grinde, Fair and Geiss. Vassar was playing players from Haverford College, La Salle University and host Swarthmore.
Vassar will host the Vassar Scramble next Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17 on Joss Courts, with first serve slated for 11 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
