POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 29, 2017) – The Vassar College women's tennis honored its two seniors Saturday morning for Senior Day prior to the match, and then honored them again with an emphatic 9-0 Liberty League win over Rochester Institute of Technology in action from Joss Courts on a gorgeous April morning in Poughkeepsie.
 
In doubles action, the Brewers took an early lead thanks to one of the seniors, as captain Connie Yoo teamed with junior Dasha Ivenitsky to take down Alyssa Hering and Kayla Llanos 8-0. VC doubled its advantage at No. 2 doubles thanks to junior Kate Christensen and sophomore Morgane Flournoy, as the pair knocked off Brianna Dimisko and Carmen Navas-Davis 8-1.
 
In the final doubles match of the day, the No. 1 pairing of senior Shayna Becker and freshman Tara Edwards helped VC sweep doubles with an 8-4 win over Amelia Ying and Diana Kulawiec 8-4. Needing just two wins in singles action to claim the win, VC wasted no time getting its fourth, as Ivenitsky won all 12 games contested at No. 6 singles to earn a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
 
In fitting fashion, Yoo would clinch the match on Senior Day, as she knocked off Kulawiec 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to push Vassar to 15-4 on the season. Edwards continued her strong play with a win at No. 3 singles, giving VC a 6-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Navas-Davis, and Flournoy also powered past Marie Jubert at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1.
 
In the final two matches, Becker would claim a victory at No. 2 singles to highlight her second win of the day, knocking off Dimisko 6-0, 6-1. Up 8-0, Christensen would finish up the sweep for the Brewers with a 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
 
"Great team match on senior day," said head coach Kathy Campbell. "We executed tactics and shots we've been working on in practice, and we played steady, yet aggressive, tennis.  We're really looking forward to the upcoming Liberty League Championship.  Our seniors and co-captains Shayna Becker and Connie Yoo have been tremendous leaders, teammates and competitors all year.  There is such a positive team dynamic and that was apparent on the courts today."
 
The Brewers (15-4, 6-1 Liberty) will now turn its attention to the Liberty League Tournament next weekend, as second-seeded Vassar will battle the third-seed St. Lawrence University in the No. 2-No. 3 semifinal match Friday, May 5 at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
