Brewers Cruise to 14-3 Win Over Bard

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 14, 2017)- For the seventh straight time, the Vassar College Brewers defeated the Bard College Raptors 14-3 after a strong first half, inside Weinberg Turf Field Friday night.
 
With the win, the Brewers improve to 5-5 overall and 3-2 within the Liberty League conference, while the Raptors fall to 5-6 overall and 0-5 in the Liberty League.
 
The Brewers scored a staggering 10 goals out-of their 12 shots on net in the first half. Six different Brewers opened the game with nine unanswered goals before the Raptors got on the board with 11 minutes and 35 seconds left in the half.
 
Vassar's offensive presence lingered in the second half.
 
Adele MacEwen, Grace Goodwin-Boyd, Julia Trudell, Kelly Pushie and Storm Sideleau were at the root of the Vassar offense each connecting with two goals. Trudell, Pushie and Lindsay Wolk had a game-high of two assists while Tillie Newcob scooped up three ground balls. Emily Chancey was solid between the pipes for the Brewers with seven saves and a save percentage of .700.
 
Caleigh DeCaprio, Dylan McDonald and Nicole Ellin all notched one goal for Bard.
 
Sideleau was the first to get on the scoreboard with two goals less than two minutes into the contest. Vassar then went on a 8-0 run. Waters earned the next goal and her 24th of the season after a Sideleau groundball. A feed from Emily Hamburger to Pushie made way for her first goal of the game. The Brewers scored their next three goals at the hands of MacEwen, and Trudell within two minutes of each other, giving Vassar a 7-0 lead with 19 minutes of play left in the half.
 
Vassar went on to score two more goals and ended the half with a goal from Goodwin-Boyd, courtesy of an assist from Hankins, 10-1.
 
The second half was in Vassar's favor as the Brewers connected with a 2-0 run. Bard would answer with another goal before Goodwin-Boyd and Wolk would find the back of the net. The Raptors would find one more goal before the end of regulation.
 
Vassar tallied 16 ground balls, and dominated the draw controls winning 13 in the Brewers victory.
 
The Vassar women's lacrosse team plays Liberty League foe Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Friday, April 21 at 4 p.m.
