POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 9, 2017) – The Vassar College women's tennis team (5-1) will head out to the West Coast for the first 10 days of Spring Break, traveling to California to take on some of the best teams in the nation for five matches. The Brewers will battle two ranked teams while out west in No. 4 Bowdoin College and No. 38 Hardin-Simmons University, also taking on regionally ranked Chapman University.

Last Time Out: The Brewers are coming off a tight 6-3 Liberty League win over the Herons of William Smith College, moving to 4-0 on the season in the conference. The Brewers took a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, thanks to wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, and Vassar took four of the six singles matches as well. Sophomore

A Look At The Brewers:
- The Vassar women's tennis team is winning 66.0 percent of their matches at both singles and doubles play this season.
- Sophomore Morgane Flournoy has won her past two matches, and has gone 8-3 this season in singles action, going 5-1 in dual matches.
- Senior Connie Yoo has won eight of her past 10 matches, going 4-0 in Liberty League play. She has been just as strong in doubles, equaling her singles mark of 9-4 in doubles.
- Freshman Tara Edwards is tied for the team lead in wins for the Brewers, going 10-5 this season, posting a 3-1 mark in Liberty League play.
- Senior Shayna Becker has won her past two singles matches, while taking over at the No. 2 spot for the Brewers.
- Junior Kate Christensen has won seven of her past 10 matches in singles action, teaming with Flournoy to go 6-2 as a pairing in 16-17.
- Flournoy has been a dynamo at doubles this year, going 12-3 this season, three more wins than anyone else on the team.
- Seven Brewers have earned seven or more doubles wins this season, as the Brewers have won 75.0 percent of their pairs matches in Liberty League play.
- This season, Vassar has only dropped on No. 2 doubles match on the season.
- The trip will be a homecoming for four different Brewers, as Yoo, Becker, Christensen and freshman Shayna Becker each are from the Golden State.
A Look At The Spring Break Competition:
- Vassar will start the trip with two of its hardest matches of the season, including taking on the fourth-ranked Polar Bears of Bowdoin College. Bowdoin is 1-0 in dual matches, defeating Skidmore 7-2 back in the fall.
- Bowdoin features one of the nation's best player in Joulia Likhanskaia, who came into the season ranked as the No. 7 player in the nation but is currently No. 49. She is 6-2 on the season.
- Samantha Stalder is 6-3 on the season in singles as well for the Polar Bears, while Tess Trinka is also 6-2 this year.
- Hardin-Simmons is ranked No. 39, and will send either Shayne Cook of Jenna Smith out as the No. 1. Smith is 2-1 at the spot, while Cook has gone 2-2 at the top spot.
- Lexie Graham is 4-2 on the year in singles, while Smith and Kyra Mobley are both leading the team in singles' wins with five.
- Hannah Smith and Jenna Smith are 5-3 in doubles action after playing mostly at No. 3 doubles, while Cook and Michaela Ellison are 4-4 at the top position in doubles for HSU.
- The Poets of Whittier College are 0-2 this year, losing to Cal Lutheran and UC Santa Cruz, 9-0.
- Chapman is 0-4 as a team this season, going 5-27 in singles action and 1-13 in doubles.
- Chapman has played a very difficult schedule thus far, as Nicole Fouts and Madeline Saunders each have two wins on their ledger.
- Fouts and Raven Hampton have the Panthers only win in doubles.
- Principia boasts a top 35 player in the nation in Paige Cooley, ranked nationally by the ITA.
- Cooley has gone 4-5 this season, but has played a very strong schedule thus far, as the team is 1-8 on the year.
- Anh Vu has played No. 2 through No. 4 for Principia, going 1-7 on the year, while Zoe Boyman, Nathalie DeLoach and Brittany Duke also each have singles victories.
- Caitlin Carney and Cooley lead the team with a pair of doubles' wins.
Up Next: Vassar will return home on April 1 to take on the Saints of St. Lawrence University in Liberty League action, as VC looks for revenge after falling to SLU last season. Match is set for Joss Tennis Courts at 10 a.m. in Poughkeepsie.
