Vassar Women's Tennis Match Notes - St. Lawrence

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 1, 2017) – The Vassar women's tennis team (9-2, 4-0 Liberty League) is looking to improve their Liberty League record to 5-0 this Saturday, April 1 on the Josselyn Tennis Courts against St. Lawrence University.

Last Time Out: The Brewers are riding a four-match win streak, with victories against Principia College, Chapman University, Whittier College, and No. 38 Hardin-Simmons University. This all came in the team's spring break trip to California, where the squad finished 4-1 overall, with the only loss coming against Bowdoin College.

  • St. Lawrence has struggled since, however, the last five of six, including three losses in a row coming into Saturday.
  • The last three losses for Saints came against quality opponents. They were: Sewanee (2nd in the Atlantic South Region), Oberlin (12th in the Central Region), and Colby (16th in the Northeast Region).
  • The Saints are ranked 13th in the Northeast region, one spot higher than the Brewers.
  • Katherine Apt is 12-6 this season in singles play, and has won two in a row.
  • Apt is also 11-2 overall in doubles play this year.
  • Georgia Comber and Alexandra Dadoly are 4-3 on the season in doubles play in the No. 1 position.
  • In the match against Colby, St. Lawrence earned victories in No. 2 singles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles thanks to Apt, Carly Jefferson, and Lia Peterson respectively.
  • Back in February, Comber and Dadoly were named Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week and Apt was named Rookie of the Week.

Up Next: The Brewers will head to South Hadley, MA next weekend to take on a myriad of opponents in the 2017 Seven Sisters Championships, taking part as the defending champion. Vassar takes on Bryn Mawr and Smith on Saturday, and Mount Holyoke and Wellesley on Sunday.
