Men's Squash Notes - Bard Round Robin

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 9, 2017) —After hosting four matches last weekend in Kenyon Hall, the Brewers will go on their first road trip of the season to Bard College. Vassar will compete in the two-day Bard College Round Robin beginning on Saturday in Annandale-On-Hudson, NY.


Last Time Out: The Brewers went 2-2 in their first weekend, picking up wins over Lafayette and Swarthmore. On Saturday, Vassar topped Lafayette 7-2 and grabbed a win over Swarthmore 5-4 on Sunday.

A Look At The Brewers (2-2):
  • Freshman Mathieu Rizk started off his collegiate career going 2-2 in the opening weekend and was named to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll.
  • Rizk grabbed 3-0 wins over William Gitlin of Lafayette and Nathaniel Sandalow-Ash of Swarthmore both at the No. 2 spot.
  • Caden Gruber, Drew Hardin, Alex Riccio, and Isaac Stuart all went 2-2 in the first four matches of the season.
  • Sophomore Viraj Nadkarni has stepped in the No. 1 spot this season, after playing as the No. as a rookie. Nadkarni picked up a 3-1 win over Dave Perron of Lafayette (11-3, 11-2, 10-12, 11-5).
  • Newcomers have helped fill out the starting lineup this season with Hardin, Rizk, Rothman, and Solender all seeing action in the first weekend of completion.
  • The three captains combined for a 5-7 mark in the first weekend of action, playing at the No. 1, 4, and 5 spots.
 
 
A Look At The Competition:
  • The four other teams competing this weekend are Swarthmore, Penn State, Colgate, and Bard.
  • Swarthmore went 0-3 against Boston U., Fordham, and Vassar last weekend at the Hudson Valley Tournament.
  • The Bard Raptors went 1-2 in their first weekend of competition at the Denison Round Robin in Buffalo, NY.
  • The Raptors picked up a 9-0 win over Washington University in St. Louis and fell 9-0 to Hobart, and 6-3 to Denison.
  • Six players for Bard picked up 3-0 wins on their way to victory over Washington.
 
 
Next Up: Vassar will travel to Middletown, CT next Saturday to take on Wesleyan University and Bryant University beginning at 11:00 a.m.
