POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 31, 2017) – The 2017-18 squash season kicks off this weekend in Kenyon Hall as the teams will host Boston University, Bucknell, Fordham, Lafayette, Mount Holyoke, and Swarthmore.
The men's team is looking to improve upon their 5-15 record from a season ago. Captains
Alex Riccio,
Isaac Stuart, and
Viraj Nadkarni will look to incorporate six new faces to their 11-man team. Freshmen Isaac Harris, Milind Joshi, and Mathieu Rizk will be joined by Drew Hardin, Andrew Solender, and Benjamin Rothman as the newcomers on the squad.
Of the returning players, Nadkarni racked up the most wins last season as he posted an 8-10 record.
Caden Gruber and Riccio each had seven wins last year. Gruber was 7-13 playing the most matches in the sixth spot. Riccio was 7-12 playing eight matches at both the sixth and seventh position. Stuart was next in line with five wins, posting a 5-11 overall record while playing 11 of those matches at No. 9.
The women's team posted an 11-6 mark last season, including a 7-1 record at home. This season, the senior captain trio of
Emma Glickman,
Cherylann Mucciolo, and
Hannah Nice will help integrate five new student-athletes to the 16-player roster. Freshmen Isabel Bronson, Alexa Elias, Sefa February, Elizabeth Johnson, and Amanda Waston will all add depth and youth to a loaded roster.
Nice led the team with a 15-1 record last season, all at the No. 1 spot. Among the returners,
Alessandra Pilkington had the second most wins with 13, posting a 13-4 record, playing at the No. 6 and 7.
Sydney Nemphos recorded a 12-5 mark as a freshman with most of her matches coming as the No. 4.
Jiamin Wu tied for the most matches played last season with 17. She posted a 6-11 overall record, playing 15 of those matches at No. 2.
This weekend, the men will host Fordham and Lafayette on Saturday before facing Swarthmore and Boston University on Sunday. The squad went a combined 3-2 in their regular season matches against those four opponents last year. The only team they did not beat was Boston U. Action kicks off for them at 10:00 a.m. in Kenyon Hall.
The women will host Fordham and Mount Holyoke this Saturday before taking on Boston University and Bucknell on Sunday. Last season, the team went a combined 4-0 in their regular season matches against this weekend's opponents. Their season begins at 10:00 a.m. in Kenyon Hall.
