HOBOKEN, NJ (September 3, 2017) – The Vassar College women's soccer team played double overtime and 110 minutes for the third time this season. The Brewers tied 1-1 with the Ducks of Stevens on Tuesday night in a hard fought battle.
Fiona Walsh tied her career-high with 12 saves against 15 shots from a talented Stevens' side. Both teams scored in the opening 25 minutes and played a tight game the rest of the way.
Vassar kicked off the scoring in the 7
th minute. Freshman
Emily Longo tapped a pass to
Amanda McFarland who took a beautiful shot to opposite side to put the Brewers up by one.
In the 23
rd minute, Stevens answered with a score of their own to tie the game. Olivia Butera curled in a pass to Gabby Saade who finished for her seventh of the season.
The offensive pressure didn't slow in the second frame as both teams continued to put well played shots on goal. Vassar tallied 10 shots in the second half and overtime alone. Walsh came up big in net with eight of her 12 saves after halftime.
Sara Seper led the team with five total shots and three on target.
Savannah Cutler had two shots off the bench, both on goal.
"It was just a really hard fought match against a great opponent in Stevens, said Head Coach
Corey Holton. "I'm really proud of the group, really proud of the team, and excited for what's next."
The Brewers stay on the road and take on Skidmore this Saturday in a conference tilt in Saratoga Springs at 3:00 p.m.
