POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 28, 2017) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team team honored its two seniors in style on Saturday afternoon, sweeping a non-conference tri-match with Plattsburgh State and John Jay. VC started the day with a three-set win over Plattsburgh State with scores of 25-11, 25-5 and 25-12, knocking off John Jay with scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15.
Vassar 3, Plattsburgh 0
The Brewers hit .374 for the match, while holding the Cardinals (6-20) to just eight kills for the contest in rolling to the three-set victory. Plattsburgh tied the opening set at three, but Vassar posted eight of the next 10 points to take an 11-5 lead. Up 21-22, Vassar posted the final four points of the set, including a
Devan Gallagher set to win the game to take a 1-0 edge.
The offense for Vassar was on full display in the second set, as Vassar posted a match-best 16 kills while hitting .424 to double its edge. The third set was much of the same, as Vassar cruised to the victory. Gallagher finished with a team-best 10 kills on 18 attempts, while junior
Lauren Ninkovich hit .444 to accumulate nine kills.
Sophomore
Colette Cambey added eight kills, while senior
Bria Corham chalked up seven terminations on her final home match in Kenyon Hall. Fellow senior
Sophia Tiajoloff chalked up 21 assists, while
Anna Zucchero posted a team-high 13 digs. Vassar finished with nine service aces for the match.
Vassar 3, John Jay 0
Vassar controlled the service game in the second match of the day with 11 aces, while hitting effectively to the tune of a .366 hitting percentage to earn its 22
nd win of the season. In the opening set, the match remained close at 12-10, but a 6-0 run by the Brewers was enough to propel them to a 1-0 match advantage. Vassar was not challenged, as the energy and emotion from Senior Day was more than enough to push VC to the win.
Gallagher chalked up nine more kills for VC, posting five digs as well, while Corham added two aces and seven terminations. Tiajoloff was stellar with 29 assists, two digs, three assisted blocks and an ace, and Jenny Kerbs hit .600 en route to seven kills, while Cambey posted five kills and a team-best six total blocks including two solo rejections.

Vassar (22-6) will now focus on the Liberty League Championships, serving as the No. 3 seed and taking on No. 2 Clarkson University at Ithaca College Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. in Ithaca, NY.
