Women's Volleyball Falters Against New Paltz

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 25, 2017) – In their final week of the season and with conference play wrapped up, the Vassar women's volleyball team took to the courts in Kenyon Hall to face local rival SUNY New Paltz. The Hawks came out on top, winning 25-13, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19 on Wednesday night.
 
After dropping the opening two sets, Vassar won a close third set 25-22 to extend the match. In the third, the Brewers hit .405 with 17 kills on 37 total attacks. It was their best hitting set by far, as the Brewers only surpassed 10 kills in one other set, the fourth and final set of the match.
 
Devan Gallagher paced the offense with 19 total kills while also adding seven digs, two assists, and one block. Jennifer Kerbs and Colette Cambey each had six kills on the day against the Hawks.
 
Annie MacMillan dished out a team-high 33 assists and added an ace for her stat line. Anna Zucchero led the team with 16 digs on the defensive side of things.
 
The Hawks were led by Demi Harasme, Taylor Cimillo, and Emma Hines who each had 13, 12, and 10 kills respectively. Maddie Zwickl racked up 36 assists and 10 digs for a double-double. While Veronica Matedero tallied 12 digs for SUNY New Paltz.
 
Vassar concludes their regular season with two more home matches on Saturday. First the team faces John Jay at 11:00 a.m. before taking on Plattsburgh at 3:00 p.m.
