Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brewers Draw With Engineers Wednesday Night

TROY, NY (October 25, 2017) – In the final road contest of the regular season, the Vassar men's soccer team ended with a 0-0 tie in double overtime.

It was the team's second tie in league play and gives them a 5-1-2 mark in the conference. The Brewers are currently tied with St. Lawrence in the Liberty League standings with 17 points and are just one point shy of league leading Hobart. Vassar still has a chance to finish as the No. 1 team in the standings if they can win on Saturday in their final match and if Hobart finishes their season with a loss or a tie.

Wednesday night's matchup seemed quite even on the stat sheet as the shots in regulation were just 9-7 in favor of Vassar and the corner kicks were even 3-3. In total the shots on goal favored the Engineers 5-4. But it was in overtime when the RPI offense came alive, outshooting the Brewers 8-0 and earning six corner kicks in the extra 20 minutes while Vassar had zero.

Kevin Baliat led the Vassar offense with two shots on goal against RPI. In the 14th minute, the sophomore forward had an excellent header that was on target, but saved by the Engineer keeper.

Both Austin Lukasik and Noah Snider recorded two shots for the night as well.

In goal, Matt Marcelino played the full time, picking up his first shutout of the season in his seventh start. The senior also made fives saves during the game.

The Brewers cap off their regular season at home against Ithaca on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
