CANTON, NY (October 14, 2017) – The Vassar women's soccer team unbeaten conference mark came to an end as they fell 1-0 at St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The loss brought their Liberty League record to 4-1-1.
The Saints seemed to control the majority of possession in the first as they outshot the Brewers 15-4 in the opening 45 minutes and earned three corner kicks to Vassar's two.
Fiona Walsh played the full 90 minutes in cage and was forced to make six first half saves and ended the day with 12 total.
St. Lawrence owned the statistical advantage in the second half as well, outshooting the Brewers 9-8 and earning three corner kicks while not conceding any.
The Saints finally broke through in the 54
th minute. Emily Wade made a long pass to Hannah Meriam who shot the ball to the lower right corner for the goal.
Amanda McFarland and
Ally Thayer paced the Vassar offense with three shots each, while
Ashley Ferry fired off two.
With the loss, the Brewers' unbeaten streak ends at 10 games. It was Vassar's first loss in over a month as they hadn't dropped a match since September 6 against Western Connecticut State.
