POTSDAM, NY (October 13, 2017) –
Ally Thayer's 84
th minute goal kept the Vassar women's soccer team's unbeaten conference record alive as they topped Clarkson 2-1 on Friday afternoon.
The Brewers are now 4-0-1 in Liberty League play, sitting in second place behind William Smith. Overall, VC is unbeaten in their last 10 games, going 8-0-2 over that span.
Vassar seemed to have the run of play in the opening 45 minutes, firing off five shots and earning two corner kicks. Clarkson on the other hand had just three shots and no corner kicks in the first half.
Out of the break,
Amanda McFarland found the back of the net in the 53
rd minute. The senior recorded her fifth goal of the season off a
Savannah Cutler assist to put her team ahead 1-0.
Clarkson's Megan Murphy had an answer for that in the 67
th minute. The sophomore midfielder scored unassisted to equal the score at 1-1.
In the 84
th minute, the Brewers would take back the lead for good. McFarland, the senior captain, assisted on the score as Thayer beat the keeper for the game-winner.
McFarland finished the day with three points and now ranks second on the squad with 13 this season.
Sara Seper and Thayer led the offense with three shots each, while Cutler and
Jordan Moss each registered two.
Fiona Walsh made her 13
th start of the season and picked up the win. The freshman made just two saves against eight total shots.
Up next, Vassar heads to Canton to face St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
