Vassar Women's Basketball Notes — Bard

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 9, 2017) — The Vassar College women's basketball team (5-8, 2-2 Liberty) will welcome Bard College (0-10, 0-2 Liberty) to the Athletics & Fitness Center on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Last Time Out: Vassar split the weekend, 1-1, taking down Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday, 83-72, before falling to William Smith College the next day, 69-65. Sophie Nick (18p, 19p) and Isa Peczuh (15p, 10p) were the only Brewers to hit double-digit scoring for both games.
 
A Look At The Brewers (5-8):
  • Nick picked up her fourth Liberty League Rookie of the Week honor, while Peczuh notched her first Honor Roll nod on Monday for her performances against RIT and William Smith. 
  • ­­The Brewers have been right there, as 16 of their losses over the past two seasons have been by two possessions or fewer.
  • Vassar has a positive scoring margin of 2.7 this season, outscoring opponents by an average of 65.4 to 62.7.
  • The Brewers have shot 39.3 percent from the floor and 30.6 percent from three, while holding opponents to 37.0 and 19.6 percent, respectively. The Brewers' defensive three-point field goal percentage of 19.6 is the lowest in the Liberty League and the second-lowest in the country behind Christopher Newport (18.0).
  • Two Brewers are averaging double figures in the scoring column, Ariella Rosenthal with 15.1 and Nick with 12.4 points per game.
  • Rosenthal and Nick have reached double-digit scoring in all but two games each.
  • Nick leads the Brewers in rebounds per game (8.6) and blocks (11), while also adding 10 steals.
  • Rosenthal and Kim Romanoff has been the Brewers' primary facilitators, averaging 3.1 assists per game, which is the second-most behind Samarah Cook (3.4), who is out with an injury.
  • Peczuh has been a threat on offense and defense, draining a team-high 20 threes on 39 percent shooting from deep and swiping a team-best 19 steals.
  • The Brewers are on track to make improvements from last season. Through the first 13 games last season, Vassar was 3-10 before finishing with a 10-15 overall and 7-9 Liberty League mark.
 
A Look At The Raptors (0-10):
  • Bard will be looking to snap a 26-game losing streak, dating back to last season. The Raptors' most recent win came on Dec. 12, 2015 when they topped Elms College 74-70. It was their second win in as many games, as they beat Mount Saint Mary College two days prior, 39-38.
  • Bard has been outscored this season by an average of 28.5 points, 69.2 to 40.7.
  • The Raptors have shot 28.7 percent from the floor and 26.3 percent from deep, connecting on an average of 2.6 triples per contest. Meanwhile, opponents have shot 41.3 and 36.9 percent, respectively.
  • Bard has been outrebounded by an average of 7.8 boards, 44.4 to 36.6.
  • The Raptors have blocked more shots than opponents, swatting away 2.1 per game to opponents' 2.0.
  • Annie Kissel and Alexis Akingbade are Bard's leading scorers, averaging 9.0 points and 8.6 points per game, respectively.
  • Akingbade averages the most rebounds per game with 10.3 and has blocked the second-most shots with 11.
  • Sarah Morris leads the way in swats with 20 on the year. She has also been the Raptors' primary facilitator, dishing out a team-best 2.0 assists per game.
  • Through 10 games last season, the Raptors were 5-5 on their way to finishing 5-20 on the season and 0-16 in conference play.
 
Against Bard All-Time: The Brewers are 15-0 against the Raptors all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1996. Last season, Vassar handed Bard a 71-59 loss in January and an 82-42 setback in February.
 
Next Up: Vassar wraps up its five-game homestand this weekend, hosting Clarkson University on Friday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. and St. Lawrence University on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
